On June 24th I had the pleasure of watching the TTXGP, the eGrandPrix of motorcycles. We were the guests of Azhar Hussain, who founded TTXGP. There is a really nice article about his efforts here. At the race it was entertaining to see, and not hear, the motorcycles flying buy on the Portland International Raceway. The winning bike, pictured on the right, was from Brammo, an Ashland, Oregon company. When the bike raced by it sounded like a low-flying missile -- a "whoosh" of the 100+ mph motorcycle. Before the EV race, there was a petro-motorcycle race. It was quite a juxtaposition to hear the ear-piercing sound of the petro bikes, as opposed to, the whoosh of the EV bikes. I prefer the whoosh -- no ear plugs required!.
You can see a cool video of the Virginia Tech rider and his fast and quiet race around the track here.
You can get more background on TTXGP from their website.
The White Zombie (right) -- Before the TTXGP race, I had the pleasure of seeing the White Zombie drag racer. John Wayland is the owner of this 1972 Datsun 1200 all-electric dragster. John said it is capable of an unbelievable 0 - 60 mph in a mere 1.8 seconds! You can read more about it here. John hadn't seen a blue Chevy Volt before, so I parked by him and "showed" my Volt by the White Zombie (below). Later a converted BMW 325 joined us.
